What is an EORI Number?
The EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is a unique identifier that every economic operator must have when conducting customs activities in the EU or UK. After Brexit, two separate EORI numbers may be needed: one for the EU and one for the UK.
When is an EORI Number Needed?
You need an EORI number if you:
- Import or export goods to/from the EU
- Submit customs declarations
- Conduct transit procedures
- Require temporary admission permits
Applying for an EU EORI Number
In Hungary, the EORI number can be applied for at NAV. The process is as follows:
- Complete form 23VAPJ24
- Attach required documents
- Submit electronically through eBev system
- Wait for approval (usually 1-2 weeks)
Applying for a UK EORI Number
If exporting to the UK, you may also need a UK EORI number. This can be applied for through the HMRC website. As an EU business:
- Visit the GOV.UK website
- Complete the online form
- Provide company details
- EORI number is usually issued immediately
Important Information
The EORI number is free and valid indefinitely. It needs to be applied for once and can be used for all EU/UK trade activities. Without this number, customs declarations cannot be submitted.
