    Moving from UK to EU requires thorough preparation. Since Brexit, personal belongings are also subject to customs clearance, although certain exemptions exist.

    Transfer of Residence (ToR) Exemption

    If moving permanently to the EU, you may be eligible for Transfer of Residence exemption. This allows used household items to be imported duty and VAT free. Requirements:

    • Had residence in UK for at least 12 months
    • Owned and used items for at least 6 months
    • Will continue using them in the EU
    • Non-commercial import
